The 75 to 120 Watt an hour, a pedal powered generator can produce, isnt much today, where for example, a stationary computer easily uses 300 Watt.
But a pedal powered energy generator only uses around 70% of the human muscles - The legs. And another problem is that the pedals goes round, which means that the legs only
gives effective pressure on the pedals, 2/4 of the time. (2 x 1/4)
So it is resonable to expect that a human can generate between 195 and 312 watt an hour, if we
make a generator that uses 100% of our muscles 100% of the time.

A laptop uses around 70 Watt, so if you work an hour on the new energy generator you can generate enough energy for you laptop to run for 3 to 4 hours.
The ideal is to live without the need to buy energy. The energy that you cant generate yourself, you can get from the more traditional alternative energy sources, like suncells
or wind energy.
By producing your own energy, you get at least 2 positive spinoffs: You get more aware of energy consumption, and you get a chance to burn some of your bodyfat. - And the
design, that I am going to present, will train the whole of your body - not just the legs.
The wildest use of the idea can even drive a energy generation competition between 2 or more teams.
